The work sites of the Bôndy nursery

Published on: 23 June 2020

The Bôndy nursery is where baby plants grow until they reach a stage where they can be transplanted. The first Bôndy nursery, with an area of 2,300 m², is located on the banks of the Sisaony River in the Andramasina region.

186,000 seedlings are being produced at the same time and will be able to supply the inhabitants of Andramasina with young plants for years to come. Currently, more than twenty different species are growing there to meet the various needs of the local population.

Bôndy's team of 8 nurserymen take care of the plants by propagating them and ensuring their growth. Bôndy uses various techniques to do this:

  • Cutting
  • Grafting
  • Layering
  • Semi-trailers

In order to promote the local economy, Bôndy has chosen local suppliers for all the raw materials available on site. Indeed, consuming locally has many benefits on the economic, health and environmental levels. Finally, two compost bins have been made and installed in the nursery in order to recycle organic waste which will then be used to fertilise the soil.

The zebu cart leaves the nursery after delivering bricks.
