COCOA PRODUCTION

Ambanja, Madagascar

It grows

Located in the north of Madagascar in the Diana region, the Ambanja district benefits from conditions that are extremely favorable to food crops and cash crops such as cocoa, for which it is the main production basin in the country.

World-renowned by the chocolate industry, Ambanja's cocoa is grown in undergrowth, in agroforestry systems that combine cocoa trees with shade trees.

Despite their economic importance, cash crops - notably cocoa, vanilla and coffee - are subject to various constraints that negatively influence the production and income of farming households.

Aware of these challenges, Bôndy is supporting 150 producers in the Ambanja district in the restoration of their agroforestry plots.

To do this, fruit and shade trees are produced by 5 nurseries and distributed to 150 partner producers of the project.

These producers will also participate in training on reforestation and maintenance of agroforestry plots, while taking part in awareness-raising workshops on the issues and effects of climate change.
