Educational nurseries: Raising awareness of environmental conservation.

  •  Malagasy youth at the heart of climate change challenges

According to a recent WWF report, the degradation of the environment and ecosystem services in Madagascar will result in an annual economic loss equal to 4.2% of GDP. This invites us to act as quickly as possible to preserve the environment and promote sustainable management of natural resources. This same observation has led Bôndy to become involved with the youngest children, by collaborating with 10 Public Primary Schools (EPP). The objective is firstly to make the youngest aware of the protection of ecosystems. And then to make them understand the role of forests in maintaining ecological and social balance.

  • Tailor-made environmental workshops for school children

In concrete terms, Bôndy firstly offers the teachers of the partner schools a short training course. As well as teaching materials to organise practical work in the various classes. Secondly, Bôndy equips each school with an educational nursery that can produce up to 1,500 young plants. The management of the educational nurseries is taken care of by the teachers and the young students. In this way, the young Malagasy participate actively in the stages of a reforestation project:

  • preparation of the potting soil
  • bagging of seeds
  • maintenance of young plants
  • until the young trees are planted!

Of course, Bôndy's teams provide technical support to the partner schools throughout the process.

  • Raising awareness among the young farmers of tomorrow.

The aim of these courses is to give these future landowners a rural entrepreneurial background. These young students, who will inherit their parents' land, will already have acquired knowledge about sustainable forestry.
