Ma Hazo

Protecting forests while creating sustainable incomes for rural communities. Ma Hazo connects nature and the economy, allowing farmers to grow trees that nourish the land, capture carbon, and support their families.
Regarding
In Madagascar, massive deforestation is weakening the ecosystems and the livelihoods of rural populations. Through the Ma Hazo project, Bôndy is acting to restore these degraded landscapes, by transforming the most vulnerable areas into productive and resilient territories.

Why choose Madagascar?

Madagascar is a global biodiversity hotspot, home to more than 5% of the planet's species, 90% of which are endemic. Its forests and agricultural ecosystems play a crucial role in climate regulation and carbon storage. However, more than half of the country's natural forests have disappeared in half a century. Each year, around 100,000 hectares of forest are lost due to slash-and-burn agriculture, unsustainable logging, and rural poverty.

Our actions on the ground

We support producers at every stage: from setting up village nurseries to planting trees, to monitoring their growth.
We train farmers in agroforestry techniques, sustainable soil management and the cultivation of coffee and cocoa under shade. Each plot becomes a living space where shade trees, fruit trees and food crops complement each other to create a balance between production and biodiversity.
